Mysterious Buddhist Beads: Few beads are surrounded by as much mystery and myth as the dZi bead (say ‘zee’). These etched agates are found in Tibet, Bhutan, Ladakh, and Nepal, and are believed to be about two thousand years old. Many legends accompany the beads- that they were not made by man but created by the gods (by lightning strikes, or sometimes, goats – I am not making this up), that they bring luck and ward off evil, that they protect the wearer from physical harm by taking the abuse upon themselves, and that the bead itself will choose its’ owner and will not stay with an unlucky person.

Exciting Vintage Burkett Collection has Found It’s Way to Tiger Tiger!

Tiger has acquired a collection of vintage Robert Burkett pieces from an estate.  We now have close to 9 kilos of vintage Burkett originals made in the 80’s and 90’s. Among these pieces are a variety of creatures and critters, as well as wonderful ornate spacer beads and figurative pieces. Some of these pieces are Bob’s productions, as well as one of a kinds.

Robert Burkett is a world-recognized jewelry maker and has been called the finest bead-maker in America. He works primarily in silver and shibuichi, a Japanese process where silver is mixed with copper to produce stunning arrays of color and form.

His pieces are crafted by hand using the lost-wax casting technique. Highly collectible, his style is uniquely his own.

This collection consists of wonderful beads, pendants, bottles, and introduces new families of critters such as bears, snakes, elephants, dragonfly’s, platypus’ and many more! All the pieces are cast in silver or shibuichi.

We are very excited to process and share these collectible items with collectors and jewelry makers. Stay tuned for all these Burkett designs to appear on our website as well as our Etsy shop TigerTigerTreasures.

Tiger Tiger at Qilosophy

“Qi”: The circulating life force whose existence and properties are the basis of much Chinese philosophy and medicine.

quilosophy.2  Tiger Tiger has formed an alliance with Tucson’s Stephanie Nelson of Qilosophy (pronounced chee-losophy), an acupuncture and cupping massage center.  Tiger Tiger now has a display case of merchandise in Qilosophy’s new location at 2532 E. 6th St. in Tucson, AZ. The unique and one of a kind pieces on display in Qilosophy’s beautiful space complement the fun and relaxing, physically and visually pleasing environment created by Stephanie. Both places share a common passion for the ancient traditional/medicinal practices derived from Chinese culture. Practices that benefit ones physical health and personal/mental wellness today the same as they did so many years ago.

Cupping is a centuries old technique which is intended to increase blood flow to promote healing and relaxation.  In a typical cupping session, glass cups are warmed using a cotton ball or other flammable substance and placed over a specific area on the body.   A vacuum is created as the heated air cools inside the glass cup, drawing up the skin. This opens up the skin’s pores, stimulates blood flow, and most importantly, balances and realigns the flow of “qi”. Cupping breaks up obstructions, and creates an avenue for toxins to be drawn out of the body.

Stephanie graduated from The Arizona School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, and studied at The Hainan Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Haikou, China. She has been a practicing massage therapist in Tucson since 1996. Now, as a Master Massage Therapist and practitioner of Oriental Medicine she has combined the most helpful and effective treatments in acupuncture and cupping into Qilosophy.

Now at Qilosophy, with you best health and financial interests in mind, you can participate in healing activities as well as shop for unique and beautiful handmade, new and antique jewelry, singing bowls, and one of a kind Tiger Tiger items. Together Qilosophy and Tiger Tiger with their mutual passion for healing activities are bringing you services and items that will inspire you to be the best version of yourself .
