Description
The necklace was acquired in 2006 from a private collection in the USA and is comprised of amethyst from Peru, sodalite traded from Chile, and Chimú – fabricated silver beads. Some beads are carved, others are tumbled, a ravishing collection of ancient beads.
The Chimú are known for their elaborate jewelry of stone gathered through trade routes along the length of the west coast of South America, and Spondylus shell traded in from Ecuador. They maintained the largest political system in Peru for centuries until the Inca conquered them.
