Description
A wood ojime bead, with alternating dark and light layers. Ojime were traditionally used in Japan to hold the inro box closed as part of a Sagemono set (encompassing the Inro, Ojime, and Netsuke) where daily items were stored and worn. The Japanese were renowned for making utilitarian things beautifully!
