Description
Elaborately carved skull, with Buddhist motifs, several deities and Tibetan Sanscrit characters. The provenance is questionable, the beauty and rarity of the piece is not.
The skull has apparent age, it is hard to say whether or not the carving dates from the skull. The skull belonged to an older woman.
We have seen new pieces like this that originated from China in the late 90’s – early 2000’s. This piece, while similar is much better done.
Stories heard about these suggest that skulls like this where carved to take a curse off of a family or to guide a mislead soul on the right path.
in both cases, the skull was then given as a votive offering to the lama of a monestary.
This is an en exceptional piece, it deserves a good home in a collection.
Remember, we cannot ship this to Geogia, Tennessee, Louisiana or anywhere else that prohibits shipment of human remains.
